Parish Council Meetings

The Parish Council meets at the Jubilee Hall,  usually on the third Wednesday of the month.  Meetings start at 8pm from April to October inclusive, and at 7.30pm from November to February inclusive.  The March meeting begins with the Annual Parish Meeting at 7pm, and the usual Parish Council meeting follows.  Sometimes it is necessary to arrange extra meetings and details of these will be available on the website as appropriate. 

 

Anyone is welcome to attend the meetings but whilst members of the public cannot participate a short period of time is given for members of the public to air their views on matters directly related to the Parish Council.

The ANNUAL PARISH MEETING is a meeting for all residents, the opportunity to hear about the Council's work over the past year and to flag up issues for the Council to consider in the future.  Due to Coronavirus restrictions, the 2020 meeting was CANCELLED.

The ANNUAL PARISH COUNCIL MEETING is always held in May, and this is when the Chairman and Vice-Chairman are elected, Committee memberships agreed (if a Council has Committees), and representatives (where appropriate) appointed to external organisations.  Under new Coronavirus legislation, the appointments made in 2019 will carry over to 2021.  All meetings are currently "virtual" meetings held via Zoom. 

The Role of the Clerk

 

The Clerk is the ‘Proper Officer’ of the Council who is responsible for the smooth running of the Council’s business. He/she is the first point of contact for the Council and all correspondence comes to the Clerk.

 

Responsibility for implementing the decisions of the Council rests with the Clerk along with giving professional guidance where necessary whilst remaining neutral and discreet. The Clerk is also  the RFO - (Responsible Financial Officer) with responsibility for financial management.

 

The Clerk prepares, circulates and displays agenda in public places. She/he signs notices and summons with a list of business to be transacted but does not have the power to fix the meetings of the Council. The Clerk is required to attend meetings, take minutes, keep Council minutes in a book and hold other documents.

 

A member of the Council may be appointed as Clerk without remuneration but nowadays it is more usual to appoint someone who is not a councillor to be paid for the work they undertake.
